Destination Belize, a country on the eastern coast of northern Central America, bordering the Caribbean Sea in east. It was known as British Honduras until 1973. Belize was granted independence on 21 September 1981, it is since then a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as its monarch and head of state. Border countries are Guatemala and Mexico, and it shares maritime borders with Honduras. The country occupies an area of 22,966 km², it is about twice the size of Estonia, or slightly smaller than the U.S. state of Massachusetts.
